Liquid Paraffin is a very highly refined mineral oil used for medical purposes. Liquid paraffin is basically a gastrointestinal lubricant. Liquid Paraffin is most commonly used as a laxative for animals that are suffering from constipation. Liquid paraffin (petrolatum) is a highly refined distilled fraction of petroleum that contains a mixture of liquid saturated hydrocarbons. It is used as a laxative, a lubricant, and as a base for nasal sprays. The medicinal liquid paraffin should not be confused with the paraffin (or kerosene) used as a fuel. However it is advised that it is not used on a regular basis as over use can result in an inability to absorb vitamins and minerals.
